OLD TREE FELLED.
' HAMILTON lAIT VETERAN. PLANTED OVER 60 YEARSAfter standing for about 60 years. one of the old trees in Grey Street. Hamilton East. has been removed. The ilarger limbs were sewn on last week land the remainder of the tree was rooted out yesterday. The tree. which is an elm, stood near the residence of Mr A. B. Cossidy, who stated that it was well-grown when ihe was a boy, although another old ‘resldent of Hamilton East stated that .he remembered the tree belng planted lover 50 years ago. 3 A local nurserymsn examined the sections of the trunk and considers the tree to be between 70 and 75 years old. The larger roots were only a root or two under the asphalt whlle there were hardly any roots further than two feet under the surface. A species of grub was lound in many of the sections or the tree when lt was out up. Another of the trees in Grey Street was blown down In a storm several months ago and it was literally rlddled with grub. A full Investigation regarding the soundness of the trees was undertaken by the Beautlfying Soclety and the af-‘ fected branches will be removed this week. i
