The association conference last evening approved a remit that the. Gov—ernment be asked to make Changes, as it was felt met the tourist traffic could not be catered for successfully unless guests could be supplied with refreshments, as in other countries. The present licensing laws were condemned as out of date by several speakers, including the ch‘trman, .\lr \\'. K. )icAlpine. who said he would not be giving away any secrets by saying the matter was on paper for consideration by the Government. He felt that it’ the Government were approached it would see the problem in a proper light. "The tourist business is going to be such a big one that no Government will be able to ignore it," he said. “Now is the time. whether we seek only a license for boarders in tourist houses or ask for an overhaul of the whole of the licensing legislation, All we want is to be able to sell it to boarders. Oil (Invercargilll, whov said that as a representative of a no-i license area he could not support it.l it was contrary to the principle that‘ the people of a district should decide whether or not there should be .1 license.
