Born in Dunedin in tBBO. he was , educated in Dunedin and first commenced business in invercargtll and later was in Gore. in 191?. he came to Hamilton and opened a cycle business which grew and prospered with the town. He maintained his interest and control in the business despite illhealth over the past 12 months and at the time of his death was managing(lirector ot' \‘ickery, Ltd. During his early life in Hamilton he was a member or the Hamilton Rowing Club and took a keen interest in the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club, of which he was an executive member for some years. A supporter of St. Peter‘. Cathedral. he was a. member of the t Chapter for several years. He was : also a member or the \Vaikato Dio—- : icesnn School Board or Governors. and lplayed an active part in'the establisht ment of the School some years ago. 1' Another organisation in which the 'ilate Mr Vickery was keenly interested lwas the Hamilton Rotary Club of which. ,lho was an active member until retzcentiy. Thursday. ‘ Mrs Mary \V'hyte. of Unehunsa, died yesterday in her 100th. year. She was the widow u! the late Mr Alex—3 ander Whyte. who died in 1911. l Born in Glasgow on November 29. 1936, Mrs Whyto was married in 185:), and arrived in New Zealand in July of that year, to enable .\lr Whyte to take lup a teaching appointment. in 1863 they removed to Unehunga. where Mr\Vhyte had lived ever since. .\lrs Whyte was a foundation member of the Onehunga Presbyterian Church, and was present at the 75th. anniversary celebrations of the church last year. The death occurred last night at Mr (fitarles Holley. aged 87, who was one of the pioneers in the goldmining days on the \\‘est Coast of the South island. lie was born at .\lelksham, \\'iltshire. and when a young man left for ‘llelbourne ahoard the Niagara and came to New Zealand in 1872.
