Thornton presided at the - July meeting of the To Aroha Cham—ber of Commerce last evening. Messrs F. Cook and J, D. Otter were formally . welcomed as new members. The chairman reported that the ‘ school children milk scheme was i functioning well, but further flunds ' were needed. The delegates to the recent confer—l ence in connection with the control ' of country dance halls reported that as a. result of that conference the our was now clearer and improvements could he expected in future ' Mr D. Burgess introduced the mat—- ‘ tor of re-stocking the \Vaihou River ‘ with trout. Members showed con—- ' siderable interest in the proposal It being decided to leave the matter over for discussion by certain members ' who were also keen sportsmen. and ‘ members of the Acclimatisation ‘ Society. ‘ Several members referred to the growing menace of dogs and cattle ‘ straying on the roads. The matter is ' to ‘be brought under the notice of the Borough Council. The matter of band programmes in the Tourist Domain was referred to, and it was decided to tako steps to have the. pipe band render programmes there, alternating with the brass band, which up to now had been the only band to play in the grounds,
