MARXIST TEACHINGS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The arguments of “Capitalist” would carry far more weight if he would deal with actual facts, and not misrepresent my statements. .Neither 1 nor any Marxist asks anyone to adopt parts of Marx. One might just as sensibly ask a person to believe only part of a truth. Marxism is the scientific outlook upon life and existence based upon the achievements of all previous thought, development and advance. According to many who have recently visited Russia no grave results are suffered by those who worship God. Some of these visitors have attended services there, and no one has had any fear of the services being interrupted. “It is, however," slates Rev. Now let us consider the question that appears to be so deeply worrying “Capitalist”—that of free love. Of course it is the inherent nature of a capitalist to think only in terms of £ s. d. The trafficking of love that takes place under a capitalist society is surely most immoral and degrading. The Soviet code on marriage and the family is based on complete social and economic equality of the man and woman, and ils expressed purpose is lo “safeguard the interests of the mother and especially those of the children.’’ Dealing with Ibis phase of Soviet life, the Rev. .1. Lewis stales: “Without any doubt the relations between young people arc very healthy indeed; general behaviour is excellent-. The Department of Justice informed us that divorce was on the decline, although it is obtainable by simple application concerned about the sexual corruption* of the West than for that of Soviet Russia.” And these remarks are fully substantiated by all Ihose whose eyes are not blinded by the stupidities of antiquated tradition. Finally, Marxism does not recognise* the State as the “be-all and end-all.” The State is to ho used by the working class as a means of abolishing all the existing contradictions which make 1 110 Slate a necessary machine of coercion. When a classless Socialist society has ultimately given birth to a Communist society then the State, as such, will be superfluous, and man’s perfected moral sense will be his i guide and master. — 1 am, etc., I.
