Slr Henry Gullett, stated toclay that trade negotiations had been re—opened with Japan through Mr Mural, Consul-General at Sydney, and it is expected that imediate retaliation by Japan against the recently—imposed textile duties will ‘be avoided. The Minister pointed out that Japan “as awakening to the fact that the new Australian tariff was not nearly as harmful as had been anticipated, and there was a much better understanding as the result of two—way com—munications since the publication of the tariff schedule.
