GOVERNMENTS PLANS. ‘ CHEAPER SETS PROBABLE. (By Telegraph—Press Associationi) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The‘ Postmaster-General, the Hon. i“. Jones, in an interview last evening. hinted at a possibility of the Government taking steps to bring about a reduction in the price of radio receiving sets, it being the aim to extend the radio service to the utmost. There are 200,000 homes in New Zealand without sets and the Government desired the‘ people to regard broadcast reception as necessary to a. home as [ms or electricity. To ettect this it was hoped to design and construct a cheap but eillclent standard set. Experiments along this line are being conducted by omcers in the department, and it was hoped they would come to fruition in the not distant future. The question of royalty payments was hr-lnsr considered.
