FAREWELL EVENING.

MR AND MRS N. PATTERSON. Prior to the departure of Mr and Mrs Norman Patterson and family for New Plymouth, a dance and card evening was held by the Huntlv Railway Sports Club, when a large number assembled to bid them farewell. Mr Patterson, who had resided in Iluntly for the past 16 years, where he had been employed in the locomotive branch of the Railway Department, had applied for a transfer for,health reasons, and lie now exchanges positions with Mr M. Scott, formerly of Iluntly. who was recently transferred to New Plymouth. A most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, for which excellent music was provided by the Elite Orchestra, and cards for the non-dancers. Mr Davies, of Waharoa, contributed enjoyable extras on a pinno-accordeon. Mr C. ,T. Owens was M.C., and Mr J. Douglas capably supervised the euchre. Mr A. H. Thorne, on behalf of the staff, spoke eulogistically of Mr Patterson, and expressed regret at his departure. lie wished Mr and Mrs Patterson every happiness for the future. Mr Thorne read an apology for absence from the stationmaster, Mr J. S. Scoullar. Mr M. Johnson, of the locomotive department, in presenting Mr and Mrs Patterson with an electric kettle and a travelling rug as a token of esteem from the staff, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Patterson and of the splendid services he had rendered while a member of the staff. The departing guests carried with them best wishes for the future. On behalf of the eilizens, Mr W. C. Davies also expressed regret at the departure of the guests of the evening. Mr Patterson suitably acknowledged the expressions of goodwill and the presentations on behalf of Mrs Patterson and himself.
