Ninth Scout Law: A Scout Is thrifty. PLANS FOR EABTER CAMPB. Plans Tor camping at Easter are afoot now. It Is to be hoped that as many scouts as can will take this opportunity as it provides the last vacation suitable for camping until Labour week-end. Cubbers’ attention Is drawn to the Tart that a Cub Gilwell is being held at Matainata and will be under the leadership or Miss Nancy Wilson. It is two years since we had a course in tills province and it is hoped as many as possible will take advantage or the arrangements made by Commissioner Southon. Also, the first Wolf Cub Palaver in the Auckland scouting history will be held at Gratia during Easter. All particulars or this one to be had on application. Cubbers do your best. Camp good turns: Each cub and scout who goes to camp tries to do a very spacial good turn to the farmers who allow them to camp on their property and to the people In the neighbourhood. Here are some good turns which Boy scouts have been able to do: Put out a fire, filled In roads washed out by storms, helped cars stuck in the mud, acted as bathing pickets on crowded beaches, cleaned up property, repaired fences and hedges. Improved a swimming pool for people or the district, built a permanent wooden bridge over a gully, thereby saving villagers threequarters or a mile walk, built a watch tower on the beach, organised a day’s clean-up on the beach and provided entertainment at a church bazaar. TROOP NOTES. St. George’s. Ilullo, everybody! Here we are again. Since our last report towards the end or the year we have had plenty of scouting in all quarters. Two of our P.L.’s were In a party or cyclists who made a trip on tlielr mounts round the Bay or Plenty and to the district camp at Kauri Point. Others known figure In flap-jack tossing) went to the distlrct camp at Kauri Point. Others have been holiday-making in all parts or New Zealand. On Monday, February 3, we commenced our 1936 parades. At the close or the meeting, prayer for the late King was orrered and we swore allegiance to King Edward VIII. The following parade was spent In rally practice and we had a good number on parade. I During ihe morning we did extensive' rally practice, cooks being called off at 11.30 Tor dinner preparations. By special request “Tank ” prepared some jam pancakes which we thoroughly enjoyed. Mure rally practice followed till 3.50 when we struck camp, leaving the site at 4.10 p.m. On Molulay evening we held our weekly parade at the hut and hammered away at rally work till 8.45 when we had hair an hour’s games. Members of our own troop are going up on Suuday. PACK NEWS. Ohaupo. \ Ever since Mrs Brennan left tbe district, we bave beon without a cubmaster but Mrs M. H. Allen, of Te Awamutu, has kindly consented to take over the pack until after the rally and began work W'irh the pack last week. Most or the meeting was spent getting to know one another and in going over the rally programme. The pack seem to have forgotten a lot of their cub work but are to revise it this week, so will get along better next meeting. St. James. We held our weekly meeting on Tuesday evening and had seventeen on parade. Including another new recruit. Also, we had present one visitor, whom we are hoping will shortly be our assistant cubmaster. Arter our usual opening and our exercises, we had a thrilling game of “ freeze ball.” The rest or the evening was spent practising Tor the rally. We had planned ror some of the boys to go for the swimmer’s badge on Wednesday evening but unfortunately had to postpone this on account of the baths being emptied. At present, we are running a six competition to see which is the best all-round six from the date or commencing this year and until the rally. It will be very interesting to see the results.
