ST. PETEK’S SCHOOL.

HYGIENIC MODERN KITCHEN. USE OF ELECTRICITY. Spotless white tiles and gleaming silver surfaces and the most up-to-date labour saving devices make the kitchens at St. Peter’s Boys’ School, near Cambridge, officially opened today, a dream come true for most housewives. Absolute cleanliness, efficiency and speed are the guiding principles of the kitchens and it is with an eye to each of these they have been planned. The sides of the kitchen have been given to counters, drawers and fitments and the centre is given up to electric stoves and stock pot. Electricity is used for everything. There are stoves, refrigerators, a Bain Marie used for heating plates, and keeping food heated, and perhaps the most desirable of all from the housewife’s point of view, an electric potato peeler which peels 281 b of potatoes in live minutes, and a dish-washing machine which at the same time sterilises the dishes. An entrance and exit door do away with any confusion in the wonderfully planned server.y which boasts stainless steel benches which provide perhaps the most hygienic of surfaces obtainable. All the crockery is Willow pattern ware from Hayward’s, Staffordshire, England, and its freshness and charm is undoubted. Milk is provided from the school’s own Jersey cows and the mutton and beef used in the kitchens is also from the school supply. The spacious kitchen gardens provide all that is necessary in the way of vegetables and ensure only the freshest of supplies. The kitchens are under the supervision of Miss G. M. Sutton, who has had wide experience in schools and colleges in England and the American Continent.
