YOUTHFUL CRIMINAL.
YOUTH SENT TO GAOL. LED JEKYLL AND HYDE LIFE. Described by Judge Sheridan as having led a Jekyll and Hyde life, Robert Oliver, 18, clerk, of I-larbord, was sentenced in Sydney to imprisonment for two years. Oliver pleaded guilty to three charges of breaking and entering shops at Manly. It was stated that hevwas in employment at £3 a week and when a testimonial to his character from liis employers was presented Judge Sheridan remarked that the case had no redeeming feature. “ You were working satisfactorily by day and a thief at night,” said Judge Sheridan. “ The statement you have, given of your past activities •shows you have made a regular business of breaking and entering.” Police stated that Oliver had given every assistance when arrested. Judge Sheridan: They all do it. That is the regular technique. When Oliver’s father said he intended hiking his son to South Australia at the expiry of the sentence, Judge Sheridan recommended his release on licence at llic end of three months.
