BUOYANT MARKET

VALUES AT MORRINSVILLE. BTOREB STILL BTEADY. PAT STOCK SELL WECL. With a large draft of East Coast store 'bullocks on offer buyers were present in greater numbers at the weekly Morrinsville stock sale yesterday. The fixture was the final one of the year and marked the completion of the first year of weekly sales. Values for fat stock showed little fluctuation from last market’s rates while store classes were buoyant of sale. Good competition was shown for an average supply of ox beef which comprised mainly heavy sorts. Values were firm at last week’s decreased rates with a slight strengthening tendency in some cases. Competition was eager for a limited supply of extra prime quality in the cow and heifer beef section and pens carrying prime finish met a sharp market at slightly advanced rates. Keen inquiry maintained last week’s price level for secondary sorts and for boners. A' feature of this section was the sale of two heavy Friesian bulls from Messrs Washbourne Brothers at £lO 16s per head. , The keen demand that has persisted for store cattle'in the Waikato showed/ no slackening yesterday when 400 head of East Coast cattle were marketed. . A large bench of buyers operated at prices ranging up to £7 11s, values in some instances being above those current at other centres. Messrs Thompson and Ernest, of Whakatane, ■sold forward 3-year-old Hereford steers prices ranging from £7 3s to £7 11s, while prices up to £5 were obtained by these vendors for Hereford heifers. iSteers from another East Coast vendor, Mr R. 0. Lambs were the only class to receive eager attention, prices for light sorts ranging to 21s 6d. Ewes improved on last sale’s rates, while hoggets remained firm. Keen interest was shown in the first store lambs of the season to be offered, an average of 163 9d being obtained for a . line of 190. As at other centres a slower sale was experienced for baconers in the pig, section, prices easing slightly on last Friday’s rates. Porkers, however, met a rising market, a full bench of buyers showing more than usual activity. Stores also met a brisk market and prices advanced by Is to 2s per head, Btook Quotations.
