sky. the pianist, “but you are too modest. “ Shamus O’Brien ” in Sydney. Sir Charles Stanford’s “ Shamus O’Brien” had its first Australian production at tho Conservatorium, Svdnev. recently.
Stanford’s musicianly score retlects nuidi of Ihe charm of Irish national airs, and it contains some highly effective songs. Jean Matson, as Nord, Dora Norris (.Kilty'. David Harwell, in the name pari, Robert Scott and Ambrose Hourko did good work'.
One-act Operas In London. At Sadler's Wells, London, one night lasi month, a triple bill of onead operas—Hoist’s "Snvilri.” Puccini’s “II Tabarro” and “Gianni Sehicelii" — were presented with great success. Curiously enough each opera deals wilh a different aspect of death the philosophic, Ibe tragic, and the comic.
The performances were excellent, , particularly “II Tabarro" arid "Gianni I Sehicelii,” for which Herbert Menses, [ the conductor, was chiefly responsible.
