SWIMMING
SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE MAORI CHAMPIONSHIPS. The president, Mr E. F. ClaytonGreene, presided at .-a meeting of the executive of the South Auckland Amateur Swimming Association. It was reported that the Herbert Smith Trust had made a grant of £2O towards the cost of trophies for the New Zealand Junior Championships. Thcro is a ’further grant of £2O available for Ihc centre conducting these championships neil year, if application is made before the end of June, 1936. Inward and outward letters with the To Puke Club were read, and the secretary was Instructed to write to the club accepting its resignation from the centre with regretThe centre decided to support the Auckland centre in their efforts to prevent New Zealand swimmers being sent to the Olympic games at Berlin in 1936, unless they could show form good enough to give them a chance to win, and suggested that New Zealand should concentrate on the Empire games to be held in Australia. •It was decided that the secretary should visit Rotorua at his earliest convenience for the purpose of interviewing the Rotorua and Ohinemutu clubs and examining the progress that they have made with the organisation of the Maori championships. If satisfied with the arrangements, -he will allow the club to proceed, but if he is not satisfied with the arrangements, he will get in touch with the centre president and confer upon the position. The president -and secretary have power to act as they think fit, and may recommend to the New Zealand council that the championships be postponed for a year.
