TE AROHA BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, M.P., presided at tile December meeting or tbe Te Aroba Borough Council, Crs. Hedge, V. Hamilton, W. E. Smith, W. T. Dale, 1. Gi'icc, 11. J. Pease, \V. C. Kennedy and F. Firkin also being present. The Deputy-Mayor, Cr. Hedge, tendered Hie congratulations of tile council to tbe Mayor on Ills election as member for Waikato at tbe general election. The honour which had been accorded him was a tribute to what he had don'e for Te Aroha, which had also been honoured by his election. Crs. Grice, Kennedy, Firkin and Dale Joined in the congratulations, and in replying .Mr Coulter thanked the council lor the kindly sentiments expressed. lie said lie would work in the Interests of the district lie represented and the betterment of Uie Dominion as a whole. The manager or the municipal abattoirs reported that during the past month SS large cattle, 200 sheep. 22 lambs and 20 pigs had been slaughtered, the foes totalling £S7. Tourist Domain. A letter was read from Mr T. C. Mays, or Avondale, a former resident of Te Aroha, asking the council ir arrangements could lie facilitated for a lease of the surplus mineral waters in the Tourist Domain, as a financial company was prepared to enter Into, negotiations to place Ihe industry on a sound basts.—lt was decided to communicate with tbe Department of Tourist and Publicity on Hie subject, and to thank Mr Mays for the Information contained ill Ills letter. The Treasury forwarded the sum of £2 ins, being goldfields revenue collected in .■November. Municipal Buildings. According to notice or motion, Cr. Hedge proposed that the council take the necessary preliminary steps in connection with Hie erection of municipal buildings. lie recounted the history of the council's ofBces for the past lifty years, and stressed Hie necessity of erecting more commodious office accommodation, worthy of the borough. A brief discussion followed, and on tlie suggestion of the Mayor tbe motion was altered to read. "That the council consider Hie erection of new offices desirable, and that a special sub-committee he set up to go into the matter of site and llnance, the committee, comprising the members of the works and legal and llivance committees, to report to the next meeting.'* The treasurer reported the bank credit balance at £1251 Os Id, and accounts totalling £ I i;{8 13s lil were passed for pay meat.
