The latest Bank of England returns are:— Issue Department. —Notes in circulation £419,463,533, in the banking department £10,586,983, total '£460,050,516; Government debt, £11,015,100, oilier Government securities, £246,528,637, other securities £1,103,840, silver coin £1,352,423 (these four items constituting a fiduciary issue of £260,000,000), gold coin and bullion £200,050,516, total £460,050,516. Banking Department.—Proprietors’ capital £14,553,000, rest £3,358,009, public deposits £10,253,959 other deposits, bankers £79,802,228, other accounts £37,340,532, total £145,307,728; Government securities £82,750,001, other securities, discount advances £7,173,360, securities £14,180,553 notes £40,556,983, gold and silver coin £616,832, total £145,307,728. Proportion of. reserve to liabilities, 32.30 per cent.; short loans, 13-16ths. per cent.; three-month bills, threequarters per cent.
