PRICES FOR PRODUCE. BUTTER RATES RECEDE. FRUIT AND VEGETABLES STEADY. Supplies of fruit continue to be well maintained on the local markets, although if the present wet weather continues it will not be surprising to see a shorter supply coming forward next week. The plentiful supplies have naturally had the clfect of easing values of seasonal fruits. Hothouse tomatoes are available in plentiful supply, while strawberries continue to come forward freely, although this fruit will probably be adversely affected by the present weather conditions. Apples—Stunners, 12s to 13s; Delicious, 15s to 17s; Canadian Winesaps, 27s to 28s; Canadian Jonathans, 26s to 28s. Strawberries: Captain Cooks, Is 3d to Is 6d per chip; Marguerites, lid to Is Id per cliip; others 8d to Is per chip. Plums: Sharpe’s Early variety, 7s 6d to 9s per case; cooking varieties, 3s to 5s per case. Jamaica oranges (short supply); 30s to 355; Thames apricots, first grade, 7s to 8s 6d per case; others, 5s to 7s. Cape gooseberries, 2|d to 3sd per lb; lemons, first grade, 7s to 8s 6d case; others, 3s to 6s per case; ripe bananas, 25s to 26s per case; cherries, 7s 6d to 10s per 101 b box; tomatoes, hothouse, first grade, lid to Is Id per lb; others, 8d to Is per lb. Cauliflowers are now scarce in the vegetable section, although othor lines are well maintained. With tho substantial increaso in supplies the price of green peas has fallen considerably, a good demand -being still shown for this class. With supplies temporarily limited a firm market is still being experienced for potatoes, no slackening in demand being apparent. Quotations —Cabbages, 4s to 5s bag; cauliflowers, 8s to 9s sack, 5s to 7s bag; green peas, 4s to 4s fid sugar bag; lettuce, 8s Od to 4s Gd case; cucumbers, 4d to f>d per dozen; rhubarb, 2s to 2s 6(1 per dozen; new season’s onions, 6s lo 6s Gd sugar bag; Canadian onions, 20s to 22s per 1001 b sack; carrots, Is to Is 3d per dozen bundles, 3s Gd to 5s per sugar -bag; parsnips, beet, turnips, Is io Is Gd per dozen bundles; potatoes, 6s Gd to 6s 9d per sugar bag. Produce and Cereals. There have been several changes during the week as far as the market for cereals and produce are concerned. There has been a good demand for wheat, but stocks will be light iuntil further shipments are made. Maize is extremely scarce, and there will be no shipment before South African shipments at the end of the month. The price for fthis line is the highest for some time. Chaff is quiet at present, while bran Is inclined to ease. As was the cast last week, pollard is still affected by the Australian shipping strike.

Current rates are as follows; Wheat, 6s 3d per bushel; maize, 6s Cd per bushel; oats, 5s 3d per bushel; mixed grain, 4s 9d per bushel; barley, 4s 9d per bushel; bran, £8 per ton; pollard, £9 per ton; chaff, £8 10s per ton. Dairy and Fish Market. With a further shrinking of values on the Homo market, prices on the local market for butter have shown another decline of Id. Hamilton retailers are quoting finest at Is Id, second grade at Is, and separator butler at lid. Supplies of eggs are now coming forward freely, although rates current last week have shown no alteration. Tho feature of the fish market during the week lias been the scarcity of flounders, although this class is usually plentiful at this time of the year. Deep-sea fish, notably schnapper and terraki, are available In adequate supply and arc meeting with a good demand. No alteration In values has been reported during the week.
