LATEST RACING.

HOLIDAY FIXTURES AHEAD TE RAPA CANDIDATES, UNPLEASANT CONDITIONS. (By “Martian.”) A cold wind accompanied by steady rain made for unpleasant conditions at Te Rapa this morning. Following, heavy overnight rain the going was fairly heavy and the major part of the morning’s programme was confined o strong pace work on the course P r pP® 1 on which the flags were about abft. out from the rails. Gay Streak. Gay Streak (Winder) slipped over two furlongs along the back in 24is. ValorousValorous, having his first run along for a spell, clocked 55s for half-a-mile in company with Cocktail. King Rey. King Rey was worked steadily over a couple of rounds, while Surview was sprinted two furlongs along the back in 255. A Good Display. A good display of jumping was given by Mangu King (Gilmer) and London (Rennie) over six flights of hurdles, both handling their obstacles in dashing style. Star Artist—Du Barry. The first to work were Star Artist (Goulsbro) and Du Barry (Bowden) who were timed to reach the six furlong peg in 1.20. Both these members of A. J. Julian’s string are in good fettle for Christmas engagements. An Easy Seven. Light Comedy (Bowden), assisted over the first five by Queen’s Counsel (Goulsbro), hit out freely over seven furlongs in 1.37, the first half-mile in 55s and the five furlongs in 1.9. Both could have improved on the time. Adalene Over Six. Adalene (McKenzie) was not doing her best to clock 1.24 J for six furlongs. The consistent Little England mare Is bearing a bright and muscular appearance and should pick up a stake at the approaching Auckland meeting. Prince Acre. ' Prince Acre was not sent against the clock this morning being restricted to strong pace work over a round. The Acre gelding is looking well and with the handy impost of 7.2 in the Railway Handicap next week he must be conceded prospects. He will be ridden by the stable apprentice, J. Winder. Whirling—Calcutta. Whirling and Calcutta were associated over half-a-mile in 545. Both these horses have been striding along pleasingly in their work of late. The latter is to have his first outing for a spell at the Plrongia meeting on Boxing Day and interest will attach to his showing. Teak In Fine Order. Teak (McKenzie) was galloped on the No. 1 grass and pleased by the manner of his display. He was not timed. Brady’s charge never looked better than he does at present and he should make a hold bid in the Robinson Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Summer meeting next week in which he will be ridden by RHorne. A Pleasing Half-mile. A pleasing effort was credited to Sinking Fund (Day) and Gloucester (McKenzie) who brushed over half-a-mile in 52 2-ss. There are few more consistent performers at Te Rapa than Sinking Fund and it would be unwise to write him out entirely from Railway calculations this year. He is a genuine sprinter who can be relied upon for a solid effort in the best of company.

TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE. SEVERAL USEFUL EFFORTS. REREATU AND KELLY. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Gay Broney was a shade in front at the finish hut Vanestep was staying on solidly and did her work pleasingly. The two-year-old Golden Blonde ran home from the three furlong post in 40 4-ss, going well within herself. Small Boy took 1.10 3-5 to cover live furlongs but was not unduly bustled.

After running his first furlong in 13 1-5, Mountain Bruce got to the emil of four furlongs in 545. This maiden is doing well.
