GOODWOOD NOTES.
SCHOOL BREAK-UP PARTY. The break-up party at the school took the form of a visit from Santa Claus, who arrived laden with, toys for everyone—both teachers and children. A delicious afternoon tea was supplied by the parents, after which Mr Wattam, 'Chairman of the School Committee, took the opportunity of congratulating Russell Lang and his teacher, Mrs Duckering, on his recent success in winning the New Plymouth Scholarship, this being the first occasion that one had been won in the district. Cheers were called for the Women’s Institute by a senior boy, Murray Rowe, and heartily given toy the assembled scholars.' The usual scramble for sweets then took place after which the large gathering 'of parents dispersed, many carrying bunches of sweetpeas from the school plot.
Calf Club Competitions. Mr Fisher and Mr Peppercorn visited the school to Judge the calves in (he Calf Club competitions —10 calves being entered. A competition for children’s judging of host types of dairy cows was won by F. Middle inns, M. Rowe being second and Hilda Haycock third. The results were:—Light Breeds: Best, reared calf. Darcy Rowe I, Trevor Beangc 2, Vivian Rowe 3; best dairy type. T. Beange I. Vida Haycock 2, Vivian Rowe 3; heavy breeds, Jim Shaw 1.
