TROTTING.

NOTES OF INTEREST. KINQ’B PLAY INJURED. CONDITION OP KING'S WARRIOR. (By “Padlock.”) The Tamahere pacer King’s Play will not be fulfilling engagements at the Auckland Summer meeting owing to a leg injury received through getting his leg through a halter while running in a paddock on his owner’s property. A Merited Win. The Australians, Evicus and Emllius Way, have trained on since racing at the Addington Spring meeting, and should strip in good shape in their next engagements. It would toe pleasing to see a win come their way. Leaving Early In New Year. Roi l’Or and Graham ’Direct, accompanied by P. Brown, F- Holmes and F. G. Holmes, will leave for Perth at the beginning of January. Rol l’Or is to race in the Ashburton Cup and Graham Direct in the Auckland Gup before the trip Is undertaken. The Australian pair, Evicus and Emilius Way also will be divided before going West. Evicus will race at Ashburton and Emilius Way at Epsom. One of the Stars. The ancient pacer Logan Park is one of the stars in night racing in South Australia. He has lost some of his speed, but apparently has become more consistent than when in New Zealand. In eight starts he was only once out of a place though he failed to win. In three successive miles he slopped 2.18 1-5, 2.17 1 -;», 2.17. These times are fast in South Australia, but in this country a pacer has to lie capable of that to win a maiden race. Not Being Overtaxed. King’s Warrior is not being overtaxed in his work at Takanini, but the black pacer is fairly revelling in his tasks. King’s Warrior won the Metropolitan Handicap on the second day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting recently, hut finished out of a place in the Australasian Handicap on Hie. third day, although he, failed to get anything like a deernl run in the middle singes. Me is freely nominated at the Auckland Ghrislmas Hireling, and he should he in Ihe money.

Look Queer. At this distance, the assessments of Auburn Lad and Roi l’Or at Perth look queer. Over a mile, Roi l’Or is called on to concede 24 yards, over a mile and a half 24 yards, and over two miles only 12 yards. This suggests that Auburn Lad is regarded as the better stayer, an idea quite contrary to form in New Zealand.

Not Wealthy. Twenty-two thousand people attended a recent night meeting at Wayville, the Adelaide trotting course but It was not a wealthy crowd, as the totalisator handled only £5070. The explanation of the boom is found in the fac't that the betting shops whioh are strangling racing are not allowed to operate at night, and as a result the half-crown bettors have to attend the course. Rol L’Or. Roi l’Or has a reasonable chance of winning the Ashburton Gup on Boxing Day. Usually races with a 4.27 limit are extremely difficult to win from tho 4.22 lino, but there are only oight horses In the Ashburton Cup, and there may be only six or seven starters. There is a prospect of the pace being slow In the early part, which would favour the back marker, and on a flat track his driver will be able to indulge in his penchant for the rails without prejudicing his horse’s

chance. The Waimate gelding will probably start favourite. A Change of Quarters. The Epsom trainer, S. M. August, has arrived at Wellington, and will set up as a public trainer at Hutt Park. The only horse he will take with him will toe Great Chum, and present intentions are to nominate the gelding for the South Wairarapa meeting at Christmas. Argolls and Lumlnate, who were previously trained by August, have gone Into R. A. McMillan’s stable at Tamahere. This makes four horses to join McMillan’s establishment recently, the other pair being Replica and Manoeuvre. A Big Disappointment. One of tho biggest disappointments of last season’s three-year-olds has been Donalda, who at one time , was expected to develop Into the champion of tho year. Recurring unsoundness has been the undoing of lids gelding, hut with one minor race to his credit he must'he proving expensive. Donalda will bo given several opportunities during the next few weeks to show his worth and his next appearance will be at ihe. Gore meeting on Boxing Day. Donalda is a well-grown gelding by Bey.de Oro —Doraldlna, the latter a winner of the New Zealand Sapling Slakes and New Zealand Dor--toy, and dam of another great pony .‘n Daphne de Oro.
