CANDLE-LIT BALLROOM. Youthful hostesses are a feature of the autumn entertainments, states a London exchange. Brides of the last two years are taking into their hands the planning of the social round. Another point must be taken into consideration. It is no longer unusual for unmarried girls to entertain. Lady Mary Lygon is to lend the ballrooms of Halkin House on December 10 for an event which a recent bride, Lady Duff-Assheton-Smith, and Mrs Audrey James Field are helping her to organise. Chandeliers which are illuminated by thousands of candles tended and “snuffed” with period snuffers by footmen and serving-maids in the costume of Louis XVI. will make a perfect setting for a ball, at which all the guests will be received by Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. Dominoes and powdered hair or the full costume of the time will be worn. I
