THE FIRELESS COOKER.
A SYSTEM OF MANY ADVANTAGES. Fireless cookers are now being made and used in many country homes. The first is economy of time, as the housekeeper ma„_ the food cooking without worrying about the results while she is e - gaged in other household duties or visiting her friends. °? s . ‘ " improved by long cooking at a relatively low temperature. The texture and flavour of tougher cuts of meat, old, tough fowl, and hana are improved by slovi cooking. Dried fruits are more palatable and wno - some when cooked for a long time. Soups and stews are delicious wnen cooked the tireless way. Baking, however, can not be done very conveniently and satisfactorily in the ordinary homemade tireless cooker. In some parts of the country economy of fuel must be an important consideration. The food for the cooker may be 'started on the stove when the morning meals is being prepared. In warm weather the use of a flreless cooker and a kerosene stove means not only economy, ol fuel, but also comfort. The food to be cooked is first heated to boiling point on the stove in the fireless cooker (a large “billy” is very suitable for the purpose), covered lightly and quickly placed in the flreless cooker where the cooking continues. The flreless cooker should .be so constructed that the heat cannot escape. For long cooking it is desirable to place under the cooking vessel a hot radiator. A stove lid, a brick, or a disc of concrete, heated and placed in the cooker, will serve purpose admirably.
