Peter Pan's Christmas Letter

DEAR GIRLS AND BOYS Peter has been crossing the days off his calendar one by one with a big black pencil the whole month. At first there seemed such a lot but then there ivere fifteen and then ten, and now there are only a very feiv indeed, and the dear old World Man has turned himself over again to bring us to Christmas Land which is only a grown-up name for the Happy Isles. And although the earth has turned itself over it has brought us to the top of the year indeed. ■ In the garden, ivhich is the place that brings us nearer to the thoughts of the miracle that came to Bethlehem so many, many years ago, than any other, the Madonna lilies are blooming-in all their sweetness and purity, and there is beauty and fragrance everywhere. In the streets the shops are arrayed in the most entrancing frocks of sparkles and holly sprigs and Christmas gifts, and although Peter is sure they are not half as jolly and full of kind thoughts as the ones the twins are making “ their very own selves ” for Mummy and Daddy they are very nice for the poor grown-ups who have not time to make their own.

It has been a splendid year for our Page, although it has seemed more like a few weeks to Peter—it has flown so swiftly. > Lots of members have correspondents overseas and are in this way having wonderful adventures in foreign countries with pens and paper as the magic carpet to carry them. And lots of members are keeping on with their writing, and that is a very big thing indeed and one that is very near Peter’s heart. If ever you write a little poem, however tiny, send it along to us; the other members will love to read it and who knows, it may encourage another member to try. Members have been Beautyseekers in the real sense of the word, and their eyes have become keener than ever for the first flower to bloom and the loveliest blossoms that blow. The Nature Notes keep on coming and have taught Peter such useful things about Nature that he is sure the other members have found them interesting too.

And now for the Cheer. Chest Cargos 'All the rooms have been ejnptied out and all the Cheer Chest visitors, golliivogs and pretty Doll People, grey rabbits and white ones, Miss Peg Doll and Selina Duck cdl are tvaiting, full of excitement and wondering where their new homes will be. And Peter, who has sent the car off heaped high with gifts each year, is sure of the welcome they will get and happy in the thought of the love and kind thoughts you have all sent with your gifts. In a night or two they will be off in their exciting brown paper wrappings and gay twists of string and there ivill be little eyes peeping out from curtains and between the bars of the gate and little hearts high with. hope. Such a wonderful thing it is, little people, you have done and such a Christmas f eeling it would give you, could you see their joy bubble up when they, too, are remembered. * j And now he can hear the hum of the Holiday Plane’s propellor impatient to be away. Over the blue sea of Yesterdays to the misty horizon of To-morrow where the Happy Isles are beckoning the Holiday People and the Sun is shining warm and golden. God speed you all, little people, and guide your plane to a happy landing. The most rollicking of Christmases and all his love from your own ■ , '.&L. ~
