M OST people have, at some time or another, been greeted by a friend or a member of their family with the remark, “Oh! I had such a peculiar dream last night”-and more likely than not each of us has also that ‘peculiar’ dream for himself. Many of us who have studied this question really believe that dreams have a meaning. \\ e do not dismiss dreams as being the mere outcome of a heavy meal before retmng or necessarily accept the view that they are but a reflection of a troubled xnind. Here are a few of the things that people dream about— and the meaning which I attach thereto:— APPLES —Excellent health, good spirits and pleasant happenings. ABROAD—To dream that you are abroad means that you will visit a place that you have never thought of, one day. AEROPLANE—That some change is on its way to you within the . next three months, or that news of it will come in that time. ACTING —To dream you are acting yourself usually means that you have stage ambitions, and to dream of watching others act as well, that in some way you may come into contact with stage life. ANIMALS —If these are . wild . animals, it shows worry, which, if possible, should be curbed; domestic animals, a settled state of mind. ARTICHOKES—A small stroke of good business. BANNER—A good position. BABY—Some money worries, which, however, will pass. BEDROOM —A change of address quite suddenly, and in the near future. BARKING —News from a distant friend. BATH—Be careful of making a mistake. within the next three days. CAKES—Pleasant sociability, one or two new acquaintances. CATHEDRAL—A contented spirit. CANOE—A new friend from abroad, possibly a romance. CANAL —Sudden dissatisfaction, in which you try to make up your mind to a new course. CABBAGE—That you must make more effort to get what you want. COUGH—Take care of your chest.

DANCING—That happiness will come to you some time at a social function, and that you may meet an important friend while dancing. DEATH—Tiredness; a change is necessary, or more rest. DRAGON-FLY—That at some time in your life a very advantageous opportunity will come to you, bringing you money and happiness. DOG—A dog willing to make friends means a faithful friend; if it is hostile, be careful what you say. EARWlG—Trifling things may upset you. ELEPHANT— Possibly a journey abroad; in any case luck. EAGLE—An interest is taken in you by someone higher than yourself—an unexpected honour. EMU—Keep on trying, you’ll win out in the end. FALLING—A happening which leaves you quite lost for the time being, but over which you will triumph. FLOWERS—Nice things happening, good friends. Arum lilies, however, mean passing sadness and future happiness. EOX—Be on your guard against an enemy. FRIGHTENED—To dream you are frightened shows that you will show courage at some period of your life and come through a difficulty with flying colours. FISH—A sum of money. FENDER —Home comforts. FIREWORKS—A lot of trying episodes which will pass. FOUNTAIN—An omen for happiness in your future. GATE—That you will have to choose which way to go; after a little hesitating you will see the best to choose. GILT—You may think you have found happiness, only to come through and find real happiness waiting on the other side. GLOVES —You may buy some, or have some given to you. Good friends. Outings. GREYHOUND—You may let an opportunity slip, and have to work hard to catch up with it —but you will. GRASS—Good health and contentment. If it is scanty and brown, that you may have to wait for the things you want. HENS —That some words of yours may be repeated, also do not listen to somo gossip you yourself may hear.

HANDSHAKE—A friend will help .eu when you need it. HAY—That a wish is coming true. HORSES —If you are mounted, that you will have a big rise in position later; if they are galloping towards you, big events which now you do not expect. HAM—Papers bringing you luck. HILLS —That your best happiness lies in the future. INDIA —One day you may go to, or meet someone from, a hot country. INSECTS —Some people may annoy you. INSANITY—You are worrying too much about someone near to you; be tranquil. JUG—You must try not to lose your temper over a domestic upset; you will be glad afterwards that you didn’t. JAM—An invitation to a dinner-party. JEWELS—You may be very well off one day, either through your own efforts, or your help to someone else. JUDGE—Take no notice of adverse criticism; you may be a little too sensitive. JELLY—A children’s party. KNIFE —Possibility of an operation. If a small knife, a severed friendship. KEY—Lucky opportunities, you have the chance to succeed in your own hands. KISS —Someone you love is thinking of you, KNIGHT—A friend who will love you dearly for all your life. KITE—Your ambitions soar a little above your capabilities now—but you can gradually make them come true, if you have patience and perseverance. They may come right just as you have given up hope. LAMP—If it is lit, that at the moment you cannot see your way, but very soon you will see how things are going to work out. LACE—Money spent on new clothes, some extravagance. LAMBS—Happiness will come to you in the springtime. LAKE—A time of loneliness followed by friends and sociability. LARDER—That you are worried about saving money. LEMON —Good health, time spent in the open air. LIGHT —To dream of a blinding light, the possibility of fame one day.

MAN—A chance introduction may bring a big influence into your life. MASK—You may discover a tremendous secret about someone that will surprise you. MARSH—Do not give up too soon, the way may be a little weary, but you must keep on. MACKEREL—Presents. MAD—You must get out more, you are too apt to worry about things which cannot be helped. MINT —A letter which will make you very happy. MILES—To dream of walking miles, that perseverance will bring you to your heart’s desire. NEGRO—A shock, possibly through a dark man. NURSE—You will hear of a slight illness. NUTS —You will live abroad for some time; or wealth will come from abroad. NOSE—To dream that your nose hurts you shows that you should take care of your nose and throat; that your nose is large—power, and opportunity to organise. OAK TREE—Prosperity and much comfort. OLD WOMAN —Give help to someone ivho needs it, your reward will come. OMNIBUS—An unexpected outing. OYSTERS—A ring or present of jewellery. OWNER—To dream you are the owner of a house or property shows that you will be so in future. PALACE—You will mix with people in high places. PAPER—An important document. Also a warning not to sign anything without careful reading. PEACOCK—You may have to choose between money and love. PARENTS—That they are thinking of you, and that you will, if you are not near, hear of them. PARK—Something that you deliberated long on v will turn out to be a wise move. PA ItTY—Many friends. PIANO—A rise in life. QUARREL —That you will be very unhappy for a while over strained relations with someone. QUAY —That you will hesitate over going on a journey—and that you will go, and enjoy it.

QUEEN—You will be in touch with someone who will bring you a chance to get on. QUICKSANDS—Do not spend too much, or be tempted to borrow. ROCKING CHAIR—Do not hesitate too long over an opportunity, or you may lose it. ROSES—Many love affairs, and happiness in love. RAILWAY—That you will own a car; also indicates near changes. RIVAL —That you may suspect you have one, but that there is no need for you to worry at all. RlVEß—Sickness for someone you know well; if it is clear, that things will run smoothly. RISE—To dream that a cake or pudding is rising high shows that everything will begin to come as you want it, and your efforts will bear fruit. SAND—Money, and good business. SHOES —You will have some new shoes, and also take a journey. SHARK—Somehow you will avoid a great danger in your life, and not realise it until you have safely passed it. SWIMMING —Happiness at some time in your life near the sea; also success in work. SNAKE—That one of your friends is not to be trusted, but that you can do nothing, but just be careful of what you say. SPIDER—A lucky omen; money and happy events. TEARS—That you will have sorrow, but it will very soon be over. THUNDER—Death of someone that mattered to you—but not near or dear. TOMATO —Great vitality. THIMBLE—That you may, through your own choice, put off marrying for a long while. TREES—These show good health, and things beginning to come right. If they are in bud, a romance, maybe with someone younger than yourself. TRAIN—That you will meet an old friend after a long separation, TUSKS—A letter from abroad. UMBRELLA—You may worry a little about something which will not happen. UNDRESSED—A chance remark may annoy you. UNIVERSE—That you will think of several journeys, and eventually decide to take none of them, and stay at home. UNICORN—A post to do with the Government will be offered to a near relative. UNDERTAKER—You may be worrying a little about your own health, and may need a tonic. VALLEY. —You will choose the path of least resistance for a long time, after which you will suddenly assert yourself. VEIL—You have need of a little more reticence. VERBENA—More money, leading to little luxuries, VOYAGE—A change which you will not like at first, but which will bring you happiness. VIOLENCE—Beware of theft. VILLAGE—A holiday in the country. WATER—If it is clear, happy events, if it is muddy, that you will be a little puzzled for a while how to proceed. WAGGON—Two or three unexpected happenings which will bring interest and diversion. Also a wish to come true is on its way. WALNUTS —You are near a meeting with someone important to you. If you are engaged, you will fix a date for your marriage. WINDMILL —Something about which you were doubtful will turn out for the best. WARMING PAN—Visitors to the house, and much happy hospitality. Also, if you have not a home of your own, that you will have one in the future. WASPS—Some tiny annoyances; take no notice. YOUTH—That you will stay young a long time, and will mix a lot with young people. YOUNG MEN—You will have many ac- ’ quaintances, but just a few real friends. YELLOW—Much gaiety, and that you may visit or stay in a land with much sunshine. YAWNING—That your present circumstances do not appeal to you much, but you do nothing to alter them. YEAST—That everything is coming right for you and things shaping well for you, although at the moment you may not know it. ZEBRA—A changeable friend, who nevertheless means well. ZOO—You may marry a man much older than yourself, possibly a widower.
