TE AWAMUTU AFFAIRS.
QUESTION OF WATER SUPPLY. (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Saturday. A tribute to the Te Awamutu Fire Brigade for their keenness and enthusiasm was paid by the Government inspector of fire brigades, Mr R. Girling-Butcher, in reporting to the Te Awamutu Fire Board. Commenting on the improved water ■supply in the town he observed that the improvement had not placed the supply beyond criticism and further improvements would be required as the town grew. Even at present there was no margin available for dealing with a late call to any of the larger buildings. The chairman said Mr Girling-But-•cher’s advocacy of the Borough Council extending its present 12in. water •main ’ from Pirongia Mountain for a further distance toward fi’e Awamutu and using the replaced Sin. pipes to duplicate the remaining distance had been confirmed by the Wellington superintendent. However, their opinion was at variance with that of Mr J. W. Thomson, hydraulic engineer, who supervised the recent improvements to the borough water supply. Mr Thomson had claimed that he could give a far more effective service at less cost.
No decision was reached, further consideration being deferred for a full meeting of the board.
