CRICKET.

HAWKE CUP. SOUTH AUCKLAND'S MATCH. FIXTURE AT CHRISTMAS. CHANGE OF DATES. Ii was anounced yesterday that South Auckland’s challenge for ’the Hawke Cup would be decided at the New Year when they would meet the winners of the Manawatu —Nelson match scheduled to be played at Palmerston North during Christmas.^_ A wire was received from NeFson late' yesterday afternoon, however, asking whether South Auckland would change dates with Nelson, as Christmas was not suitable, to them. Although the South Auckland Association will not meet until Monday it is understood that the suggestion will be adopted. The change is certainly favourable to South Auckland as if Nelson had beaten Manawatu at Christinas the looal team would have had to travel to Nelson at the New Year. With the extra time and expense involved it was considered that the best team would not have been available. South Auckland now have first challenge and besides only travelling to Palmerston North may win the trophy and stage a match in Hamilton during the New Year.
