( Violent dust storms, Intense heat, , and a cyclone were the evils which ; visited the State of New South Wales " ! yesterday. ’ I Cessnock and the surrounding - ! towns received a terrific battering, fences and lines being down in all 1 directions. Houses were unroofed and several people were injured by flying debris. Dust storms forced a 'plane carryL , ing Christmas air mail for England to _ i land at Bourke, where it had to be ( tied down for Ihe night. ( The metropolis and country towns ’ sweltered . The highest temperature, j 109 degrees, was registered at Wal- . sett. Thousands of Sydney people spent l Ihe night on the beaches. _ Intense heat was experienced in Western Queensland, where in some ’ places 115 degrees was registered.
