CANTERBURY WOOL

THE TREND OF VALUES,.

RECOVERY ON NAPIER.

OFFICIAL LIST OF PRICES.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)' CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.

Keen interest was maintained throughout the first wool salo of the season here to-day, a welcome feature of the auction being the strong recovery on the rates ruling at the recent Napier sale. The circle of buyers completely filled the benches and there were buying points which had been comparatively little on the market In recent years. The top prloe of the day was 19|d a pound paid for a lot of Corrledale hogget wool.

Super wool was in keen demand from the outset, while the demand for coarse wool showed a recovery on the values ruling at Wellington last week. Values in this class were on a par with the rates at the preceding sale at Napier, though hardly up to the values of the’first sale at Auckland.

A strong feature of the sale was the demand for fine Corriedale and halfbred wools, the competition for'this class being sustained and on frequent occasions excited. Dominion mills as usual were prominent for super wools, but they did not have matters all their own way. The Continent, notably France, and Japan were always in close pursuit, and some of the super clips went to them. Most of the Merino wool forward was naturally carried over clips, and the demand for it was irregular at times with a more limited buying circle. However, the best Merino showed a sharp advance on the prices of 12 months ago. Range of Prloes. The official range of prices was as follows, rates at the first sale last year also being given for purposes of com-
