Y.M.C.A. FUNCTION

FAREWELL TO MR C. L. CATO. NEW SECRETARY WELCOMED. Tributes to the manner in which lie had conducted the affairs at the Y.M.C.A. in Hamilton during a critical period of its operations, were paid by his associates to Mr C. L. Cato, the managing secretary of the Hamilton association last, evening, at a farewell function. There were present a large number of members and friends, and the evening was spent in dancing and games, while musical items were also contributed. Mr Cato, who Ims been in Hamilton for the last four and ahalf years is leaving to take up a similar position in Nelson. Mr F. Findlay, president of the Hamilton branch, spoke highly of Mr Cato's ability and of the success with which he had filled his office, praising his great optimism during the times when the association was in a difficult position, and Ills untiring and uncomplaining efforts when other assistance was not available. Appreciation of Mrs Cato's co-operation was also expressed. Messrs P. Dixon and F. Ladd spoke on behalf of the members of the association.

Speakers representing other organisations, Mr J. Trelor, the Rotary Club. Mr Curteis, the schools, the Rev. H. T. Peat, the churches, Mr Trevenna. the Caledonian Society, briefly eulogised Mr Cato's good work, and in bidding him farewell wished him health and happiness and success in liis new position. The Mayor. Mr J. B. Fow, then presented Mr Cato with a purse from Ihe members of the Y.M.C.A. of Hamilton and outside districts.

Mr Cato in reply stated that his duly had always given him pleasure, and he paid a tribute to Mrs Cato's staunch support of all his activities.
