GUARANTEED PRICES.

' _ i N (To the Editor.) Sir, —I read that some men in j salaried positions in the dairying in- ’ dustry are viciously criticising _ the | Labourites’ plan of guaranteed prices, etc. Now while the price of butter-fat is down to nearly half its correct ratio with other prices it would he ■ well to note that these men, who are j quite content to leave it at that, have their own high salaries secure. If | they will bring those same salaries ! down to nearly half and refund back over-payments since 1929, and from ! now on accept a salary based on the price of butter-fat, their words might I carry some weight with a dairy, farmer. j Guaranteeing prices at the right ratio one to another for the different sections of the community (town industries and farmer), also the living wage for wage-earners, is only in the interests of justice, and, together with keeping law and order, is the bigger part of the Government’s duty, its citizens can do the rest with their, own industry. j The Hon. Mr Hamilton, M.P., speaking recently in Te Awamutu (showing the Government was aware of its duty) mentioned how carefully the Government guarded the correctness of the yard measure and the pound weight, but they ignore the fact that with the dairy farmer the pound is 7ioz out, and has been that way for . some years. ! j If Labour will right that injustice— 1 well, let them do it. It is the one thing that will lift the slump for town and country alike, and get the unemployed back in safe jobs. Where is the money to come from? That question has not been overlooked or ignored.—l am, etc., EDUCATED DAIRY PARMER. Te Rore, August 24, 1935.
