The possibility of a housing scheme as pari of Hie Govcnimenl’s legislative programme for Hie coming session was hinted al by tiie Prime Minister, Mr Forties, 10-day. “I cannol give you any details at present, because the matter has not been discussed in detail, but having regard lo Hie number of very old wooden houses in parts of all chief cilics and in many of Hie smaller towns, it seems at first glance that the responsibility of action should very largely rest- with Hie municipality." said Mr Forbes. “The Government will look into the matter at once", with Hie idea of encouraging municipal building schemes, and my own feeling is flint it will be prepared lo deal very generously in Hie way of subsidy with any municipality that will underlain; Hie responsibility of re-building decrepit areas.
