The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, passed through Auckland on Saturday on his way to Ills home at Matakohe. He will address meetings of electors at Dargaville and Helensville to-night and to-morrow, and will return to Wellington on Thursday for the opening of Parliament.

The Right Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, is in Wellington, where he is attending meetings of the Standing Committee of the General Synod, Board of Missions and Board of Theological Studies.

Mr J. Thorn, national -secretary ol the Labour Party, is visiting Hamilton.

Professor W. A. Sewell will act as judge at the SouLh Taranaki area festival of Hie British Drama League at Mawcra next month.

Mr T. Gray, of Wellington, has 'been appointed adjudicator of the Auckland Provincial Band Contest to be held for B, C, and D grade bands on November 23.

Mr R. G. Hoskins, president of the Whangarei Racing Club, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday after a short business and pleasure visit Lo Sydney.

Mr J. 0. Doyle, chairman of the Rice Marketing Board for New South Wales, passed through Auckland on Saturday, en route to the United States on a,business visit.

Mr E. A. Callanan, chairman of the board of directors of the Vacuum Oil Proprietary, Limited, with headquarters in Melbourne, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday to spend a fortnight’s holiday in the Dominion.

Mr Harold Ga-lty, technical adviser to the United States Army Air Corps, who lias been visiting relatives in Australia, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday to spend a month in the Dominion before sailing on his return to. the United States.

Messrs R. A. Williams, E. L. Slurnfels, G. B. Tomlinson (Auckland), L. B. .Blake. J. Wilson, G. 11. Scott, W. C. Baird (Wellington), J. McNeill (Hawera), W. Dailey, E. Biddle (Christchurch) and .1. \V. Rutherfurd (Palmerston North) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

Mr W. A. Cowan, a graduate of Olago Universily, who is now tutor in classics and librarian at Adelaide University, was a through passenger for San Francisco on tlie Mariposa on Saturday. Mr Cowan has received a Carnegie grant and will continue his studies at the University of Minnesota. Later lie will travel Lo Britain and the Continent.

Mr 11. S. Robinson, general secretary of the Melanesian Mission in Sydney, who was formerly stationed in Auckland, was a passenger by the Mariposa from Australia on Saturday. Mi 1 Robinson will attend tho annual meeting of (lie New Zealand Board of Missions in Wellington and will return lo Australia by the Monterey on September G.

The Rev. Father C. A. Ilomersham, sub-warden of I lie Community of the Ascension, Gouiburn. Australia, is spending a few days in Hamilton, lie will address a men’s meeting at St. George’s Church, Frankton, this evening, and will take a quiet day for clergy at St. John’s Church, Tc Awaniulu to-morrow. To-morrow evening Father Ilomersham will proceed south.
