Quotations given represent the average for flic week, and are not selected lines, but for pnrcols fairly representative of. the bulk of shipments now on offer.

WETHERS FIRM: EWES STEADY NO CHANGE IN LAMBS. 1 BEEF QUIET, INQUIRY FOR PORK. The following cablegrams have been received, dealing with the Smithflcld market as at the close of business last week: — Rank of New Zealandethers: Smaller supplies have caused prices to harden. Ewes: The demand is steady. Lambs: The market is steady and no material change, is expected yet. Trade generally is slow, owing to hot weather. Quotations: Wethers, light. 43d to 5.1 per lb.: heavy. i|tl to 4|d: ewes. 2d lo 2 7-8.1: lambs, twos. 7 1-8.1 10 7 3-8.1: eights. 7 1-8.1 to 7 3-8.1: fours, 6 7-8.1 to 7.1: seconds, Gd to 6 3-8.1. New Zealand Meal Producers Board: —Lambs: The market remains firm for light-weights, with a tendency to he n shade easier tor heavyweights. Consumption continues good. But. heavier supplies of home-killed are now being marketed. Million: The market for wethers is very firm. Prices have advanced owing to short spot stocks. Ewes: For light-weights, liio market is sleady and unchanged, othoi weights at slightly heller prices. Leaf. The market is quiet and steady, with trade slow, owing to low prices for chilled beef. New Zealand porkers: Tho market is firm at increased prices, owing to more inquiry. New Zealand baeoncrs: Nominal: very few available.
