PETROL TAX.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would ask Mr Masters to keep to the subject under discussion —viz., Are the oil companies carrying ■a portion of the petrol tax'? He has not proved my statement to be wrong. In his previous letter he stated definitely that the companies were not carrying any portion of the tax. He now says they are not carrying much of It, admitting they are bearing a portion, as stated by myself. .. . Mr Masters has not given a direct answer to my questions, and now seeks to evade the subject by drifting on to another matter that has no bearing on the above. I made no reference to the justification or otherwise of the companies making large profits, and am not going, to be drawn into a discussion on the matter. I arm ®t •> STEWART REID.
