“YOUNG MEN’S PARTY”

DEMOCRATS CONFERENCE. A HARMONIOUS GATHERING. MR 11. D. CARO RETURNS. “ I can state with confidence that the policy agreed upon is one which should appeal to the majority of electors in this country," declared Mr 11. D. Caro, of Hamilton, on his return from Wellington this morning, where he attended the Democrat Party’s conference. Mr Caro will contest the Hamilton seat in the party’s interests at the forthcoming election. Mr Caro informed a Waikato Times reporter that the conference was conducted most amicably and many candidates willingly compromised and jettisoned some of their opinions on minor matters in favour of the broacl general principles of the party adopted for the rehabilitation and prosperity of the country. Some 56 candidates attended and they were not only repre-, sentative of almost all parts of the • Dominion but they were also repre-' sentative of most classes of the corn-' munity. Business and professional men, farmers and artisans were all in- j eluded, said Mr Caro. * ij “I can state further,” he added,; “ that 95 per cent, of the candidates are under 50 years of age, so it can truly be termed a young man’s party.” Mr Caro, asked when he intended “ firing the first shot ’’ in his campaign replied that he would take an Opportunity of appearing before the electors not long after the party’s • policy and platform had been officially announced
