SCHOOL DETENTIONS.
THE TIME LIMITED. A letter was received by the last meeting of the .Wellington Education Board from a school committee objecting to the by-law permitting the detention of children up to thirty minutes after ordinary school hours. It was decided lo reply to the effect that formerly there was no limit, to the period of detention -that might, be imposed, hut I hat the hoard had now jived thirty minutes as the maximum lime. To this information was added an intimation that it- was the wish ot the hoard that as few detentions as pissiblc be imposed. Mr AY. H. Jackson pointed out that detention was more reformative than punitive and was otten looked at lrom the wrong angle by committees and teachers, too.
