HAMILTON OPERATIC

CAN IT BE REVIVED? FORMER MEMBER SAYS “ YES." Following on my remarks last week regarding the possibility of reviving the Hamilton Operatic Society, I have received the following letter from a former member, signed “Hopeful":—• “Your remarks on the “Across the Footlights” page of the 17th instant were read with much interest. At the conclusion of “The Belle of New York” season, the last financially successful production, the society was strong, the Hamilton public were pleased and proud of it, the members were happy and eagerly looking forward to the next season, and the name of the Society stood high throughout New Zealand for the standard of its work. “ Is it too late to bring back those grand times? I think not. With the help of your valuable 'Columns, it should be possible for old and new members to rally around, form a competent committee which could obtain a box office attraction for production, and decide on a producer who could make the best of that production. From amongst local talent a strong cast is available, and a show should blossom that the public would want to see, and so a reborn Hamilton Operatic Society may continue to 'function and prosper. “Hamilton in the past supported Its Operatic Society whole-heartedly, and. given what it wants, there is no logical reason why it should not do so again, more especially now that amateur activities elsewhere are greater than ever.”
