WEKA STREET PATHS.
IMPROVEMENTS URGED. PETITION TO COUNCIL. The levelling and tar-soaling of the Wcl<a Street footpaths was sought by Mi residents in a petition forwarded under the authority of the Frankton branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants to the Hamilton Borough Council last evening. in anticipation of a refusal on the grounds that the residents were not general ratepayers, it was pointed out Hint that they carried out tenants’ duties by paying rent to the New Zealand Railways, a duty which entitled oilier tenants in Ihe borough lo such civic, amenities as roads and fool paths. Tim We lea Street residents paid Ihe council garbage and water rates. The footpaths had been excavated by council employees, gas mains laid, nnd tlm trench refilled. Tar-scaling was carried out before Urn earth was consolidated, resulting in a rough broken surface in ihe centre of Ihe fool path, which collected and held water in wet weather. The matter was referred to the Works Committee.
