“THE LITTLE COUNTRY.”

(To the Editor.) Sir—l was quite surprised when telling a friend to be sure to read the New Zealand novel "Tho Little Country" to be told that she had seen a not very complimentary account of it in the Waikato Times. Having since read the account I feci I would like to utter a mild protest. Another friend who has read the book agrees with me that it is difficult to understand how Mr Guthrie's style can be called florid or facetious-

I like Nelle Scanlan’s “Pencarrow" stories, tout like “The Little Country" better.

I toopo you will publish this short remonstrance written by a New Zealand woman reader w’ho thinks this new novel is one of the best yet about our own Dominion. May Mr Guthrie give us more, and soon. —I am, etc-, BAYITE. Hastings. August 17, 1935.
