at te uku. The monthly meeting of the Te -Uku Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall on August 15, Miss K. Johnstone -presiding. The idea of having a book published with'reminiscences of Raglan and -surrounding districts in the early days, was put before -the members. A member from each district was appointed to see how many -copies -could be sold.

A most instructive talk on Piunket nursing was given by Miss Myrtle Sutton. The roll-call was “Uses of a Lemon,” and many excellent hints were -given.

Items given during the afternoon were much apreciated. Mrs Wallis, violin -solo; Mrs Bromich, song; Mrs Harding, song. The accompanist was Mrs Harding. A -competition arranged by (Miss Myrtle Sutton was won by Miss Muriel Sutton. The roll of honour results were as follows: Bowl of daffodils, Mrs R. Johnsione I, Miss McDonald 2, Mrs Featherstonliaugh 3. Jar of marmalade, Mrs 'Oliver 1, Mrs Dodd and Mrs Featherstonliaugh 2, equal, Miss Muriel Sutton 3. Afternoon' lea was served by the hostesse-s, Mesdames Cleland, G. Moon, Harding, and Miss Ormiston,. AT WALTON. The August meeting was held in the Walton Hall,, Mrs G. Given presiding. Miss T. Franklin, in the absence of Mrs -C. McNaul, acted as secretary. Songs, given by Mrs . Ericson, were much enjoyed. Business concerningthe Dramatic Club was discussed and arrangements were made for a. “husbands’ evening." A -report on the Dominion conference at Auckland by the Walton delegate, -Mrs F. Harris, was followed with interest. Afternoon • tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames F. Livingstone, G. B. Way, Lugton and Black. AT GLEN MASSEY. The president, Mrs J. Morwood, senior, presided- over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Glen Massey Women’-s Institute. On new member was enrolled. An interesting demonstration of Dargeena work was given by Miss Joan Brunskill, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs R. Tanfleld won the -competition. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Kerr, L. Waugh and Miss M. Crawford. AT MELVILLE, } The -monthly meeting of the Melville Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday -afternoon at residence of Mrs W. Willey, Onaupo Road, where there was a large attendance of members and visitors. A' letter of appreciation and thanks received from Mrs Bisley, president of the Hamilton Piunket Society, was read, and the financial statement in connection with tile recent Piunket baby photographic exhibition was read and adopted. 'The roll-call, “What domestic task is considered the most congenial," was well responded to. A varied assortment of toys made by members (afterwards to be handed to the isolation ward of the Waikato Hospital) was entered -for the competition and resulted: Miss Goucher 1, Mrs Morris 2. During the afternoon -a very interesting demonstration in papier mache. work was given by Mrs Terry, and members accorded her a hearty vote of thanks, Afternoon tea was served,, the hostesses- -being. Mesdames Skidmore, Speachley, Sibley and Sand-os. The social ’competition, organised by Mrs Cliainey, was. won by Mrs McLaughlin. Good business was carried on at the sales table, which was in tire charge -of Mesdames Whitley and Finlay. , AT PUKEMIRO-GLEN AFTON. The monthly meeting of the -Puke-miro-Glen Afton Women’s Institute was held in the Masonic Hall. During the evening -games and competitions were enjoyed. “ Something made out of sugar-bag” was won by .Airs Simpson, for a table-centre. The ha-king of a -sponge -competition was also won by Mrs Simpson. 'Mrs Carr, who will 'shortly leave the district, was presented with an autograph from members of the Institute.

A demonstration by Mrs Carr -of making pot-holders put of small pieces -of material was, appreciated by all. The hostesses were Airs Simpson and Airs 'Carr.
