AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION. ADDRESSES, TO MOTORISTS Motorists were well represented at the second of a series of gatherings arranged by the Hamilton executive of ■the Automobile Association on Tuesday. The construction and maintenance of batteries was the subject of an address by Mr A. I\ T . Wakefield, of Hamilton; while Mr G. P. Robertson, technical engineer to the Association ai Auckland, detailed the factors of most importance in the care and upkeep ol' a car.

Mr Wakefield detailed the constructional parts of the battery and explained the effect of the components on the life of the, battery. lie contended that while many types of accumulator appeared on first view of the same standard, the Interior construction, which was of principal importance, differed to a surprising degree. Mr Robertson based his observations to a great extent on the statistical figures compiled by the association over 11 months’ application of the “ Get-You-Horrie ” service. He said that the majority of distress calls received from motorists were due to ignition troubles and it was frequently found that the same person would apply several times for service as the result of the same meohanical defect. This was purely the result ol a lack of maintenance.
