COST OVER-STATED. REPLY 13Y -MINISTER. * (Py Telegraph.—Pros* Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The cost to the taxpayer of the services to be provided by the New Zealand Government for the survey of the coast will be £IB,OOO per annum, and not £300,000 as stated by the Institute of Surveyors, said the Minister of Marino, the lion. J. G, Cobbe, to-day. It was not known what the cost would be to the Imperial Government, but it would probably be twice the cost to the Dominion Government. Mr Cobbe added, that all he felt lie was justified in doing' in attempting lo obtain employment for New Zealand surveyors, was lo draw the attention ol' the admiralty to the fact that land survey parties, if required, could' easily be organised in New Zealand.
