MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting or. the Te Awaniutu Borough Council was held yesterday. The Mayor, Mi* O. Spinley, presided, and there wore also present Crs. A. Brown, 11. C. haiuey, .1. A. Maxwell, J. C. Montetlore, \V. ,t. North, D. Wallace, G. 0. Jourclatn, G. Gilford, and the town clerk, Mr D. Bockett. The works committee's report showed that the men had been employed kerbtng and channelling, and about 30j chains had been' done. Two shelter sheds had been built and placed in position in Albert Park. Building permits to the value or £| 3,701 los were Issued for the Tour months ending July 31, as against £illf for the same period last year. Messrs McCarter. Preston and Edmonds asked the council to support Mr ]•’. Parsons’ application' for a renewal or tils goods service license. Cr. Maxwell spoke in support of the request. Mr A. Rowan 1 also asked for support or his application Tor an extension of his license. Tin- Mayor pointed out 111,-it. tho country districts were at the mercy of the railways unless thero was soma shipping freights for the railways to compete against. Both of these carriers were ratepayers of the borough. it was deckled to support both applications.
