Indications are for partly fair and partly cloudy weather to-day; brisk north-west winds; lower temperature; scattered showers. The Rainfall. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 9 o’clock this morning, .32in. Rainfall for previous 24 hours, .18in. - Total for August to date, l.llin. Average rainfall for August, 3.961 n. Rainfall for year to date, 33.361 n. „ yearly average. 46.321 n. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, was as follow's: —An intense depression still extends across the Dominion, but an anti-cyclone cover's eastern Australia and is advancing on to the western Tasman Sea. The indications are for northerly to westerly winds at first in the North Island, but southerlies soon becoming general, moderate to strong and in places reaching gale force. Seas rough to high on the west coast of the North Island and elsewhere rather rough to rough. In the eastern Tasman Sea, ■strong south-westerly winds and rough seas. The weather should be cloudy and unsettled generally, with rain in most districts, and temperatures should become cold. Snow is likely on the ranges and possibly also on some of the lower levels of the South Island. Hail Is probable on parts of the ■coast. The Government meteorologist last night issued the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: — Strong westerly, winds, backing soon to south-westerly. The weather should be cold and squally, with heavy showers ancl hail in places. Seas rough to high.
