IRREGULAR VOTING.
SURPRISING DISCLOSURES. PLURALITY OR PERSONATION. In a. report to tlic Borough Council at Randwick, Sydney, lately, the town clerk slated that the check of the rolls for a recent ward by-election was tho worst which he had ever had at any election in the Randwick municipality. The police had been asked to investigate the matter. While it might happen, the report stated, that a person’s name was crossed off twice—once perhaps by error —it seemed to him, by tho large number of times on which names had been struck off at the b^-elect,on, that persons had been very busy voting at various polling places, or that there had been a fair amount of personation. The check disclosed that 27 persons’ names had been struck off more than once on the various rolls. In all, 8-i votes had been cast in the names of 27 persons. One person’s name had been crossed off eight times, one person’s name six times, and six persons’ names five times.
