fire at te KOWHAI. MR W. L. MAGNER'S LOSS. (Special to Times.) TE KOWHAI, Monday. A fire totally destroyed a fiveroomed house at Te Kowhal at about midnight. . ... „„ Although nothing was saved the occupants managed to escape in their night attire. The house was owned and occupied by Mr W. L. Magner. Mr Magner had been out for the evening and when returning home saw the house in flames, lie rushed across the paddocks and found that his wife *and four 'Children had awakened, and were outside. The fire then had a strong hold and nothing at all was saved.
It is believed that the building was insured but the amount is not ascertainable.
FIRE IN AUCKLAND
BRIGADE’S SMART SAVE
AUCKLAND, Monday,
Damage to the roof and machinery on the top floor, with slight damage by water to slock on the lower floors, was caused' by a lire which broke out on Saturday afternoon on the premises of F. and W. Fowler, sheet metal workers, Albert Street, City. The tire had started near the foundry on the top floor. By prompt work the firemen had the outbreak under control before it had spread 'to other floors. A lead of hose was taken up the inside of the building, although the fire was giving off a good deal of smoke.
The building is insured for £6OOO and the plant for £3OOO, both with the New Zealand Office.
