RUGBY UNION’S PROJECT. CLOSING DATE AUGUST IG. CORONATION PROPOSALS. A lengthy discussion took place at a meeting of the Queen Carnival Central Committee last night, when .Mr J. Lynch presided, on the duration of the carnival and it .was eventually decided to officially close it on Friday, August 16 at 11 p.m. It was agreed to conduct a free fair on the final night and the secretary was authorised to make arrangements for the hire of a suitable hall. It is proposed to hold a coronation ceremony about a fortnight after the carnival closes and the secretary was instructed to procure a suitable ritual for this occasion and also prepare an estimate of the probable cost of the ceremony.

On the night of Ihe free fair tho floor space in the hall is to be divided into three sections and a section allotted to each Queen’s Committee who will conduct stalls and side shows In aid of their respective queen’s funds.

The position of the voting for the queens has changed several times this week. Hamilton East led for a few days with Frankton second and Hamilton third. On Wednesday Frankton took the lead followed by Hamilton East and Hamilton in that order.

However, at 12.30 on Saturday, the Hamilton Queen headed the voting for tlie first time during the contest with Frankton second and Hamilton East third.

Only a few votes now separate the queens and with three and a-half weeks to go a keen contest is anticipated.
