\ WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

AT TE PAHU. The monthly meeting l of the Te Pahu Women’s Institute was held on July it, Mrs Bollard presiding over a good attendance. Three new members were welcomed and enrolled. Miss Hills read two most interesting letters from Mrs W. Marx, who is away touring. The roll-call, “the silliest thing that ever I did,” was most amusing. Miss M. Corcoran and Mrs J. Bollard gave a demonstration on reed loom work for which 'they were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition, “violets,” was won by Mrs G. Whittaker, with Mrs Richard ■second; infants’ knitted .singlets, Mrs Murray Arthur 1, Miss G. Strong 2. The singlets were left with the secretary to be sent to the Waikato 'Hospital to be given to persons in need. The hostesses were Mrs Richards and Mrs Ganmonsway.

AT HOROTIU.

The monthly meeting of the Horotiu ■branch of the Women’s Institute was held at the Hall on July 12, Mrs White presiding. In memory of the oldest member, Mrs Metcalf, whose death occurred recently, the members stood in silence. During the afternoon a lecture with demonstrations was given by Mr' J. Treloar, of Hamilton, on phrenology, and was most interesting and instructive. Elocution by Mrs A. Fow was much enjoyed. Good business was done at the sales ■table, also in baskets from the Blind Institute. The duties of librarian were taken over by Mrs A. Washer. The hostesses for 'the afternoon were Mesdames Hyde and Thompson, •Misses Booth and V. Hall.

AT TAUWHARE. The July meeting of the Tauwhare Women’s Institute was held in the hall, Mrs 'Dingle presiding over a good attendance of members.

An 'invitation to be present at the Matangi Institute birthday celebrations was received. Mesdames Goodsell and Fell were nominated to represent the group meetings. The motto for the month was: “ To work is to pray.’’ A bouquet of violets was presented t<> Miss I. Neil, an ardent member, who is leaving the district. The roll-call was “Dinner suitable- 'for Institute day.” A display of work by members, and work day, was held. The competitions were: Something artistic from a sugar-bag. Seniors: Mrs W. Pope 1. Mrs Nlcholls 2; juniors, Miss M. Ramsay 1, Miss D. Windsor 2. A beautiful cushion, donated by Mrs Potts, was won by Mrs T. Neil.

Mrs Nicholls gave a most interesting demonstration on rose pruning, for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. Elocution by Mrs Goodsell was much enjoyed.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Windsor, Clarry and Miss M. Ramsay.

AT WAITOA.

The monthly meeting of the Waitoa Women’s Institute was held in the Waitoa Hall on Wednesday afternoon, the vice-president, 'Mrs J. H. Lynch, presiding over a good attendance of members. i A demonstration on the various kinds and ways of knitting proved very interesting and was much appreciated.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames E. Holland, M. Mac Lean, S. McLaren, T. Reay and W. Wood.

The thought for the month was: “A little forethought often saves a lot of after-thought."
