New Zealander’s Revenge. — There are many good stories told of Colonel j F. ?ymon, who has been included in the Birthday Honours, but the best, \ which may not. be true but certainly deserves to lie. concerns the days' when Colonel Symon commanded tlie'i New Zealand Artillery at Cologne. 11l is related that he received from a | Guards’ staff olllcer a list of New Zea- | land gunners who had failed lo salute ! ■Guards’ officers Carefully pulling! aside, he went out. clad in a badge- j less trench coal and a Digger's hat. and stood near the Guards’ club just| about afternoon lea time, im either j side, 50 yards or so away, be stationed ' a military policeman. Then, as Hie ; bright young officers of the Guards I cooped forth and took no notice of the rather stooped and unimpressive j figure in the trench hat. he ipiietly | signalled the military policeman. The j next day a list of <’U Guards officers ■ was sent to their commander, asking dial appropriate action he taken for failing In salute the commander of the , New Zealand Artillery. There were 1 no more complaints from the Guards. |
