TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Te Avvamutu Borough Council was held In the Council Chambers on Monday evening, when the Mayor, Mr G, Splnley, presided and there were also present Crs. A. Brown, H. C;- Rainey, J. A.' Maxwell; \V. J. North, D. Wallace, G. O. Jourdaln, G. Gifford, J. C. Montefiore and the town clerk, Mr D. Bockett. The Works Committee put forward a comprehensive report on ,the permanent work to the value of over £14,000 to be spread over some years. Cr. Mon'teilore explained the Idea underlying his committee’s ideas; the report was approved, subject to tho approval or the Unemployment Board, the order or the works to bo arranged by the council. Cr. Montefiore sought authority rrom tho council for the Works Committee to spend up to £7OO on the maintenance or the streets and roads. On being put to the meeting tho motion was lost. Cr. Montellore then said toe would resign his position as chairman of the Works Committee. The secretary of the Te Awaniutu Orphans Club asked the council what they Intended to do regarding the heating of the Town Hall durhvg tho winter months. It was decided to obtain an estimate or the cost of the work required. The Main Highways Board forwarded plans and estimates for the work to be done at McGovern’s corner, which showed a total cost or £1 -H>s. it was decided that the work could not be undertaken this year but would bo considered In next year's estimates.
